Instagram is testing: Likes are being dropped from posts around the world

Instagram is testing out removing "likes" on posts worldwide, Wezto first reported. Last week, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced that the company would start removing likes on posts in the US, an experiment which it has already been testing in seven other countries

Instagram experimented with hiding the number of likes in the selected countries (Japan, Ireland, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, Australia) and is now expanding the test across the globe. This means that if you no longer see the number of likes on your Instagram logins and under the pictures, you shouldn't panic, because that is how it should be.

However, the update will initially only apply to selected users and it is not known if it will remain so. However, Instagram notes that the response so far has been positive.

Why is this done? Instagram wants to eliminate tension on the number of likes and keep users focused on content, not how much the post is liked.

An Instagram spokeswoman also said via Twitter that they know that the number of likes is very important to trendsetter and that they are looking for ways for them to value their user.

Facebook is currently also trying to lose likes, but only in Australia.
