The race started with Leclerc in the first place, followed by five-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Vettel and Max Verstappen started in the second row. The start passed without any major changes for front riders and continued under Leclerc's guidance.
The biggest turning point of the race came on lap 21 when Leclerc returned from the box office stop just behind teammate Vettel. The pit stop tactics did not help Hamilton, who returned to the track after both Ferrari riders and Verstappen.
Although Hamilton had fresher tires than its rivals, the safety car three times off the track lost that advantage, as Ferrari riders could save their tires. Finally, Vettel took their first win of the season, and Leclerc's second place secured them their first double win of the season. Third was Verstappen, who was able to counter Hamilton's late attacks. Valtteri Bottas and Alexander Albon also fit in the first month.
It was also Vettel's first victory since last year's Belgian GP. The Formula One season will continue as early as next week, with the Russia GP 2019.
